In 1999, I began venturing into various Ethiopian secular chat rooms, such as ethio.com, EthioLove.com, and Eritrean chat room asmarino.com, under different nicknames like “Pentew,” “Christian man,” and “Man of God.” My intention was to share my faith and bear witness to the Lord Jesus. As I continued doing so, I started receiving private messages from people who wanted to know more about my Christian life and how I was able to openly express my faith in chat rooms where offensive language against Christians was prevalent.
These individuals, who were believers themselves while living in Kenya, Sudan, Cairo, and other places, expressed their struggle to live for Jesus in the Western world. They were curious about my ability to share my faith despite the hostility. My response then, as it is now, is that it is not by my own strength but by the enabling power of God.
During one of our prayer sessions on MSN, the Lord spoke to me clearly, confirming His desire for me to start an Internet ministry. His word, Zechariah 6:15, served as confirmation. With the discovery of the voice chat feature on the Paltalk service, we created a room and began our ministry. Since then, we have been growing every day, all glory to God.
My message to fellow born-again Christians is that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. We are called to do good works, just as Jesus was revealed to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:9). We are the instruments Jesus has called to dismantle the devil’s work.
